Introducing the Safe and Sound Protocol

In addition to being a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist, I am also certified in the Safe and Sound Protocol. The Safe and Sound Protocol, or SSP, is an evidence-based listening therapy using specially filtered music to gently regulate and retune the nervous system from a state of defensiveness to one of more openness and connection to self and others.

Safe and Sound Protocol FAQs

Have questions about how the Safe and Sound Protocol works? Here are answers to some of the most common questions about what to expect, how sessions are structured, and whether SSP may be a good fit for your child.

  • All you and your child need in order to access the SSP at home is an iphone or Android device and over-the-ear headphones. If listening with me in the office, I can provide headphones or a speaker.

  • If your child finds over-the-ear headphones uncomfortable, a computer speaker can be used, although headphones are the recommended method of listening.

  • At this time, I’m only offering the SSP as an adjunctive service to play therapy. All clients accessing the SSP will also receive therapy, whether with me or another play therapist of the client’s choice.

  • The SSP involves 5 hours of filtered music. The time it takes to complete the five hours of listening will be different for each child, and can take anywhere from two weeks to several months. Those with more sensitive or dysregulated nervous systems will likely need shorter listening sessions and more time to complete the protocol.

  • I will be available to help troubleshoot if there are challenges to listening at home. The manner of listening or length of sessions may be too much for your child. We will work together to address any barriers and make adjustments as needed. It is always an option to schedule listening sessions with me in the office.

    • Up to 12 months’ access to the specially filtered music and curated playlists used in the protocol

    • Monitoring, check-ins, and clinical support from me via secure messaging

    • Pre- and Post-Listening Assessments specific to your child’s needs, providing concrete data on the SSP’s impact.

    • Caregiver toolkit

    • Regulation guide

  • I do not accept insurance, however, I am intentionally keeping my rates as accessible as possible by charging a low monthly support fee for at-home delivery of the protocol. If your insurance covers the SSP, I can provide you with monthly documentation for potential reimbursement.
